Chapel of Disease – Shallow Nights

I have already stated several times on this blog how much I adore Chapel of Disease. I don’t want to repeat myself about that. Just one thing: with “Shallow Nights“, the second pre-released song from the fourth album Echoes Of Light (09.02.2024), my love has grown even more.

As written in the “Have a listen” to “A Death Though No Loss“, I’m a huge fan of Laurent’s harsh vocals. However, the Chapel of Disease mastermind already proved on their last record that he can also score with clear vocals. To be honest, I’m not sure how much of that I need on an album.

On “Shallow Nights“ we only hear clear vocals. And in this case, this fits perfectly with a track that takes the band even further away from their death metal roots – in other words: if you put on the debut Summoning Black Gods and then listen to this new track, you might think you’re dealing with two different formations.

Further development is not always good per se. When it comes to Chapel of Disease, however, artistic progress is a blessing. “Shallow Nights“ is an introverted, dark and haunting rock song that makes me think of completely different artists such as Dool, Depeche Mode (there are synths!) or Pink Floyd. And I’m only mentioning names from my musical cosmos here, there are undoubtedly numerous other associations possible.

All in all, “Shallow Nights“ offers typical headphone music that you can completely immerse yourself in. Old fans who don’t appreciate progression will wave goodbye. I am blown away and declare once again: Chapel of Disease is the future of our scene. Nobody can match them.
