Bronze – In Chains and Shadows

In the recently published interview with Mina, we already talked about the new release by her band Bronze. But now it’s time to take a closer look at In Chains and Shadows.

In a nutshell, it can be said that we are dealing with a 32-minute firework of hits that gets better with every run. The outstanding features are of course Mina’s charismatic, in a positive sense sometimes unconventional vocals and Ced Forsberg’s (Blazon Stone, among others) impressive guitar skills. Both artists have their own recognisable style, which helps Bronze to stand out from the crowd.

However, the songwriting is just as convincing as their performance: Tunes like the opener “Fool“, “Jackals of the Sea“ or “Samurai“ only need one listen to stay in your brain forever. “Tyrant’s Spell“ turns out to be a classic grower that brings the album to a magnificent close. The level of the well-made predecessor Gods of Death (still released under the name Kramp) is easily topped.

There is never a dull moment on this album. So the question of whether In Chains and Shadows is perhaps a little short is superfluous. All nine songs are impressive and will certainly be among the best that will be released in the heavy metal sector in 2024. Frankly, I can’t imagine that a fan of our genre won’t feel completely at home here.

It’s clear that you have to buy this album. That’s why I’d like to say something else at this point: Bronze are a highly talented, classic DIY band that embodies exactly the underground spirit that so many people want. What I don’t understand is the following: Why don’t I see Mina and her comrades-in-arms on the event posters of the relevant festivals in our scene? Why don’t Bronze get the chance to demonstrate their skills to a larger audience? Therefore, dear bookers: If you still have room on the billing or some “cult band” with a “cult demo” from 1983 has to go to the old people’s home, contact Mina. You won’t regret it.
